Top
Floor was conceived in 2006 by Philip Provins (San Diego)
and Tae Oosako (Chiba, Japan). Determined to redefine the
flooring company model, we have focused on combining the best
of Western and Asian business styles. The result is a company
defined by our commitment to honesty, education and customer
service.
 Although
Top Floor is less than two years old, our personnel are people
of mature ability in the trade. Phil Provins, owner of Top
Floor, has 15 years in the business. However, it is a focus
on education which validates this experience.
"We
believe" says Phil "that it simply is not enough
to rely solely on past experience. The business of floorcovering
is constantly in a state of change. It is the duty of every
responsible contractor to stay abreast of industry changes
as they occur."
"Consider
the introduction of laminate flooring just a few years ago,"
he continues. "Most contractors were dubious about the
new product. Installation guidelines for laminate in those
days required that glue squeeze out onto the surface, an idea
contrary to all previous notions of floor installation. Based
on past experience, most contractors quickly scoffed at laminate
and decided it was not worth their time to install it.
"My
boss at the time, Mr. Ron Leutticke, was different. He brought
his employees to just about every seminar held for the the
new laminates, and encouraged us to ask questions. In time,
we learned the nuances of the product and became adept at
the unique installation process. Ron's company became well
known in San Diego for its expert laminate installers while
the other shops were forced to play catch-up."
The
lesson Phil learned was simple: experience alone does not
equal greatness; Greatness is a result of focused and deliberate
practice. It is this belief which enables Top Floor not only
to deliver a premium level of skill, but to apply a practiced
sensibility and finesse to every job at hand.

(NWFA) and the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association. Along
